Partners in Educational Leadership

What Participants are Saying...

“Together, we always stressed the need to focus on the ‘big’ picture and not the obstacles to success.”

“My mentor consistently began our sessions by allowing me to express what had taken place since our last meeting. I could not have shared this information or my reactions with anyone else. This professional outlet afforded me the ‘re-fueling’ I needed to move forward.”

“It was so wonderful talking honestly and openly with someone who "knows the drill" and could understand and give meaningful advice.”

“As you know, this role is very isolating and having someone dedicated to me was a wonderful gift. My coach was my sounding board and gave me unbelievable support.”

“The mentor... had a wealth of knowledge and expertise... the generous time that we shared provided time for rich dialogue and reflection.”

“Having a non-district mentor who was a master instructional supervisor was a tremendous resource. I felt comfortable asking (for) assistance...”

“(Coaching) enhanced my overall Instructional Leadership capabilities and gave me the confidence to be a successful principal.”

EduLead seeks to build capacity for aspiring, new, and established educational leaders in the greater Richmond area through a variety of ways—one of which is leadership coaching. The EduLead Leadership Coaching Project is an exciting professional development opportunity that offers skilled, trained leadership coaching for principals.

summer-inst-40Since 2008, EduLead coaches have served principals throughout the Richmond metro area. Coaching has been provided as ongoing support for principals who are new or relatively new to the principalship. Coaching has also benefited principals who have leadership experience but are new to the community and principals serving schools that face a variety of educational challenges and obstacles to high levels of student achievement.

The cadre of EduLead coaches consists of recently retired, highly successful school principals who have received significant training to serve as leadership coaches. The coaches have participated in ongoing CLASS (Coaching Leaders to Attain Student Success) training, which utilizes the Blended Coaching model and is offered through the New Teacher Center in California.

EduLead coaches represent a wealth of experiences, skills, knowledge and wisdom. They serve as an incredible resource for central Virginia's school leadership as coaches help school leaders master the myriad challenges of the principalship in ways that best support high levels of student learning.

Additionally, at a superintendent's discretion, EduLead Coaching may serve as a formal induction program for principals seeking the Principal of Distinction (Level II) Administration and Supervision endorsement which is now available through the Virginia Licensure Regulations for School Personnel. The endorsement criteria are detailed in the Advancing Virginia's Leadership Agenda Guidance Document: Virginia Standards and Indicators for School Leaders and Documentation for the Principal of Distinction (Level II) Administration and Supervision Endorsement.

EduLead firmly believes leadership matters and is proud to support school leaders throughout central Virginia. EduLead coaching is on the front edge of an exciting new professional trend for educators. The coaching relationships should be of value to principals not only throughout the school year, but throughout their educational leadership careers.

Powerful Partnerships

Powerful Partnerships is a component of Henrico County's leadership succession model.  EduLead coaches facilitate discussion and action among small groups of Henrico principals who are assigned "associate principals."  The principals actively mentor their associate principals to prepare them as Henrico's next pool of principals.
